Fishing Report: The Week of: 15 February 2012

Lake Belton
Water fairly clear; 53–56 degrees; 9.27' low. Black bass are good on nightcrawlers in coves. Hybrid striper are good trolling Rat–L–Traps, and on minnows and white riversides. White bass are good trolling Rat–L–Traps, and on minnows and white riversides. Crappie are good on minnows and white riversides.
Stillhouse Hollow Lake
Water stained; 53–57 degrees; 17.12' low. Black bass are fair on minnows. Hybrid striper are slow. White bass are slow. Crappie are fair on minnows and green tube jigs.
Fayette County
Water clear. Black bass are good on green pumpkin and redbug Carolina rigged soft plastics and spinnerbaits off deep points.

Lake Belton
Belton Lake Fishing Report for 18 February 2012
It Look like it was going to be a tough day on the water right from the start, cold front conditions, raining and cold. Launched this morning at 6:45 AM in the rain with air temperatures in the upper 40”s and the water temperature holding at 54 degrees. Water was stained up around main lake and the dam area and muddy closer to the river. The recent rains have brought the lake level up, however the lake still remains 6 to 8 feet low. The rains came and went all day and so did the bite. Managed to catch 12 short Largemouth Bass over the course of the day and broke off 2 nice fish at the boat. Other area anglers reported some success also, but fishing was slow. Started the day fishing crankbaits, chatterbaits and jigs with little success and didn’t pick up my first fish until I put on a 10” Texas Rigged worm. All my fish today came from 8 to 15 feet of water and holding close to whatever structure happen to be in the area. I took one last soaking, before ending the day at 1:15 PM.
Stillhouse Hollow Lake
Fishing Report for 14 January 2012
Put in this morning at 9:00 AM with a light southeasterly breeze and water temperatures holding at 53 degrees and stained with the air temperature at 47 degrees and on the raise. When to a main lake bend in the river that has been producing a good number of White Bass over the past week. Did not see any bird action but was marking fish holding tight to the bottom. Went with a silver ½ oz. slab to begin with and started catching fish right away. Fished until 1:00 PM before calling it quits for the day, but not before putting 15 small White Bass in the boat. Not a great day but still a lot of fun. Care is still needed when on the lake due to the continued low water conditions. The lake is at 16.80 low

Fishing Report for 21 January 2012
With cool morning temperatures and over cast skies we launched at 7:00 AM in the hopes of hooking into a few big Largemouth. Air temperatures were in the mid 40’s; with the water temperature about 10 to 12 degrees higher and the winds were out of the north at 10 MPH. Our first spot to try was an old road bed in about 14 feet of water where we tried throwing a C-Rig, a Jig and a Lipless Crankbait with no success. Moved from there into shallower water and switched to a Chatterbait and a 1.0 KVD Squarebill. Our first fish came on the Chatterbait and the other 4 that we managed to land came off the 1.0 Squarebill. All the fish this day were 1 to 2 ½ pounds each and all came out of 8 feet of water or less. We lost one at the boat that would have gone every bit of 5 pounds and again in only 5 feet of water. When it was all said and done, we ended the day with me catching 2 fish totaling 3.25 lbs. and my daughter had 3 fish with a total weight of 5.02 lbs.
